Water-Energy-Land impacts of COMpound weather Events (WELCOME) is a project aiming to devise an evidence-informed novel methodology to characterize compound events and their impacts. Compound events are typically studied as compounding hazards without considering adaptation, vulnerability, and impact interactions across sectors. Communicating about compound events is challenging due to their complexity. By considering compounding impacts, vulnerability, and stakeholders’ preparedness, this project can enhance stakeholders’ adaptive expertise and better understand and anticipate disruptive compound events in the future.

The project brings natural scientists within Copernicus Institute (GEO), Institute of Marine and Atmospheric research (BETA), department of Physical Geography (GEO) and Department of Mathematics (BETA) together with social scientists from department of Human Geography and Spatial Planning (GEO) and faculties of REBO, GW and SBS, to jointly tackle scientific, educational and societal challenges associated with compound hydroclimatic events.
